Enviroment Protection

"By 2030, to ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems, including their biodiversity, in order to improve their capacity to deliver performance which is essential for sustainable development'...'Encourage enterprises, especially large companies and multinationals, to adopt sustainable policies and integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle'

(Sustainable Development Goals 12 and 15).

The environmental impact of the Enecta model.

  • Cannabis has very beneficial properties for water and soil decontamination, ecosystem restoration, rural, chemical and nuclear areas. It can be used as a natural pesticide and is useful to enrich cultivated land through crop rotation. It is for this reason that Italian legislation considers cannabis:

"A crop that can contribute to the reduction of the environmental impact in agriculture, the reduction of soil consumption and the loss of biodiversity" (Law No 242 of 2017).

With regard to the current production cycle, Enecta has developed and uses a range of technologies for the cultivation and extraction of cannabis to ensure environmental protection, in line with the principles of the United Nations Global Compact.

The Enecta cultivation model does not require large amounts of water (e.g. at least 4 times less water than cotton), no chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The energy source used for the crops is the sun. In addition, Enecta seeks innovative solutions in order to reuse disused machinery (e.g. from the tobacco industry or mining) and reduce industrial waste. The carbon footprint of Enecta crops is negative and the overall environmental impact is beneficial.

  • As far as the extraction of CBD is concerned, since it is a chemical-pharmaceutical process, Enecta's partner laboratory, in accordance with the law, adopts a series of strict protocols regarding the safety of both the personnel employed in the processing and the environment. In addition, a series of techniques are adopted in order to:

to "achieve environmentally sound management of chemicals and all waste throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimise their negative impacts on human health and the environment" (Sustainable Development Goal 12).

In particular, the solvent used for the extraction is recyclable, and the laboratory has a wastewater treatment plant. Extraction residues can be used both for further extractions of cannabis principles used in pharmacies (e.g. THC, CBG)* and for the production of environmentally sustainable industrial materials.

Investment in the circular economy

Cannabis is used not only for therapeutic purposes but also in the production of resistant textiles, ropes, pulp, high nutritive value foods, building and insulating materials, bioplastics, animal food substrates, etc.

Enecta has the ambition to reach the zero waste target within 5 years, in line with the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the UN Global Compact. In other words, completely reintroduce waste material into the production cycle, and contribute to the circular economy, and environmental protection, through the financing of innovative projects for the recycling of production waste.
